RECURSION PHARMA TI

Project Description & Roles

The inspiration behind the design of this TI came from the scientific and biological nature of work that Recursion Pharmaceuticals does. The use of the hexagon motif was not only intended to build upon their brand and logo but also to create an artistic representation of how organic chemistry looks on a molecular level. The carpet specifically represents this with the multi-colored hexagon paths that guide you through the space. Each color acting as a method of wayfinding while interconnecting with the other strands at the same time.

The organization and layout of the space was very much determined by the company culture. A key factor of the culture being that everyone was to be seated together in the open office from CEO to intern. Each person having the same amount of space to call their own while having many shared spaces in the forms of conference rooms, phone booths, coding rooms, and smaller meeting areas to be able to retreat to when needed for collaboration or heavy task oriented work.

The Lab itself being the root of the company takes up approximately one-third of the leased space. It is divided into three main areas that are used to house robotic and scientific equipment. That equipment being used for the biological testing and discovery methods that are at the core of the company's purpose and approach.

Recursion wanted a Silicon Valley look on a start-up budget. We were able to stay within range of the $55 per square foot budget on the TI costs. FF&E was approximately an additional $200,000 for office furnishings and the lab equipment costs where handled directly by Recursion.

Zach was fortunate to be involved and manage all stages of the design process including concept origination, client meetings, design development, drafting, 3D modeling, material and fixture selections, and coordination with engineering consultants and commercial furniture dealers. He also played a considerable role during construction administration by attending weekly on site OAC meetings, reviewing submittals, and coordinating bidding and permitting with the landlord's representative and the general contractor.
